Kya Mere Liye Ek Din Nikal Sakta Hai?

That was said to me last Friday. A friend in the colony was getting married and had invited us to a function on last Friday with the wedding scheduled for the next day. I had thought that I would just go and show my face at the function since it was near my place and skip the wedding and enjoy the weekend. But that one line changed everything...

Someone on the verge of the biggest day of their life, asks me humbly if I could take time out from my "busy" schedule to attend his wedding. It really, really touched me. And believe me, I have known this person too long to know that he meant every word of what he said. That person is my friend Mahesh...

Mahesh was in the 10th Standard when he lost his father in a road accident. It was a painful time for him and his family of mom and sister. The weight of the world now came on Mahesh. But I have only seen Mahesh handle it brilliantly. He grew up overnight and became the pillar for his family. Mahesh stopped playing cricket with us and started attending his shop. I daresay, he showed himself to be much more of a man than probably what all of us will be in a lifetime. And all this with a superb sense of humility and grace that I know, I can learn a lot from.

That one line brought it all back. My respect for the man just increased... Not because he invited me so graciously, but it made me go back in time to see how far this person had come and he has come very far in life.

All the best Mahesh...
